Swansea City Seeks New Manager After Sacking Alan Sheehan
Swansea City is once again navigating the manager market.
Following the dismissal of Alan Sheehan just six months after his full-time appointment, the Championship club is on the hunt for its fifth permanent manager in a little over four years.
Swift action was taken to part ways with Sheehan after fans expressed their dissatisfaction following a heavy home defeat by Ipswich Town. The club is eager to move quickly in finding his replacement.
Chief Executive Tom Gorringe and Global Head of Analytics and Recruitment Adam Worth are spearheading the search for a new manager, alongside the club's ownership group led by Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen.
While no successor had been decided before Monday evening's meetings led to Sheehan's exit, several candidates have already been discussed.

Kim Hellberg
Kim Hellberg has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Sheehan, having been a strong contender earlier in the spring. During the search for a manager following Luke Williams' departure in February, then-Director of Football Richard Montague spoke with various potential candidates, with Hellberg reportedly making a positive impression.
The 37-year-old Swede is back in the spotlight, and his appointment would carry some irony, considering Montague was deemed surplus to requirements just two months ago. Hellberg has built a reputation for attractive football while ascending through the Swedish leagues, particularly after taking over at Hammarby.
He is reportedly eager to take on a role in English football, although Swansea's preference for a manager with Championship experience may work against him. Nonetheless, Hellberg remains the bookmakers' favorite and a prominent contender for the job.
Russell Martin
Could Swansea's owners consider Russell Martin, who still has many admirers within the club following his previous tenure? For now, it appears unlikely.
Martin managed Swansea from 2021 to 2023, achieving finishes of 15th and 10th in the Championship. After navigating financial constraints at Swansea, he moved to Southampton, where he secured promotion to the Premier League in his first season. However, he was later dismissed during a challenging spell at Rangers and is currently a free agent.
Despite his popularity among players and staff at Swansea, and his possession-based coaching philosophy that could address the club's attacking struggles, a reunion seems improbable as the current ownership appears resistant to the idea.
Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers is another familiar name for Swansea fans, although it has been 13 years since his two-year tenure as manager ended. The Northern Irishman is regarded as a club legend for leading Swansea to promotion to the Premier League in the 2010-11 season and achieving a mid-table finish against the odds before departing for Liverpool.
Bringing Rodgers back to Swansea would be a significant move given his successful managerial career, but the likelihood of this happening appears slim. Concerns about the financial feasibility of such a deal and whether Rodgers would consider a position at a club currently struggling in the lower reaches of the Championship remain unanswered.
Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick is regarded as an attractive British option for Swansea and is believed to have supporters within the club. The former Manchester United and England midfielder has a strong network and received praise for the playing style he implemented at Middlesbrough.
In his first season at Boro, he guided the club to the play-offs after taking over when they were in 21st place. He also led them to the EFL Cup semi-finals in the 2023-24 season, finishing his two full campaigns in eighth and tenth before his dismissal this summer.
Eric Ramsay
Eric Ramsay, a former assistant for Wales and Manchester United, has previously held discussions with Swansea during past managerial searches. He has since enhanced his reputation in his first head coaching role with MLS side Minnesota United, leading them to a record-breaking playoff run last season. Currently, they are competing in the Western Conference semi-finals, and Ramsay could be available soon after their postseason concludes.
The 34-year-old began his coaching career in the Swansea academy, but discussions about his candidacy this time have been downplayed.
Bookmakers, Wildcards, and a Galactico's Influence?
Swansea's ownership is ambitious, eager to make a swift appointment. Minority shareholder and Croatian football icon Luka Modric may offer his insights, having already contributed to attracting signings.
Despite speculation that Zinedine Zidane is interested in a return to management, the likelihood of him joining Swansea remains low. Instead, bookmakers are focusing on more local candidates.
Liam Manning, who previously attracted attention at Oxford United and Bristol City, recently lost his job at Norwich City after a poor start to the season. Gary O'Neil's name is also prominent in betting discussions, along with Kevin Muscat, who has been mentioned in connection to the Swansea role in the past.
Additionally, Alan Tate, a fan favorite during his playing days, has expressed interest in managing the club one day. He is currently serving as an assistant coach in Denmark under former Swansea boss Steve Cooper at Brøndby.
At this point, Swansea seems more inclined to explore options in Scandinavia for their next managerial appointment.
