The Rise of the Fletcher Twins at Manchester United
Manchester United's interim manager, Darren Fletcher, has twin sons who are both midfielders at the club.
The 19-year-old academy players were part of Ruben Amorim's final matches before his dismissal as head coach on Monday.
Darren Fletcher, a former United midfielder and under-18 head coach, has stepped up as interim head coach and will lead the team in their upcoming match against Burnley on Wednesday.
While Tyler has been on the bench for United's last three games, Jack was utilized by Amorim as a substitute in the team's last three matches of the 2025 season.
Both brothers play as central midfielders; although they can adopt more defensive roles, Jack has also played as a right-winger.
Internationally capped, the twins began their careers with England's under-16s, but Tyler later switched his allegiance to Scotland, the nation his father represented.
In November 2025, Tyler and Jack faced each other during an Under-19 European Championship qualifier between Scotland and England.
In July 2023, the duo signed with Manchester United from rival club Manchester City for a combined fee of £1.25 million.
The Recent Rise of the Fletchers at Manchester United
Jack Fletcher's inclusion in Ruben Amorim's squad for the trip to Tottenham in November came as a surprise, especially after Kobbie Mainoo withdrew due to injury. However, he was the next available midfielder in line.
Both Jack and Tyler have been pivotal in Travis Binnion's Under-21 squad this season. Despite mixed results against senior teams in the EFL Trophy and National League Cup, United's Under-21 team boasts an impressive record of seven wins and one loss from eight matches as they head into the second half of the Premier League 2 campaign.
Jack is regarded as more progressive in his passing and often plays higher up the pitch. He has also taken on full-back duties at times, which could benefit his chances of making the senior matchday squad.
Having started their careers at Manchester City's academy, Darren Fletcher has been a guiding influence, allowing his sons to make their own choices regarding their careers, including their international representation.
While Tyler is also skilled with the ball, he has yet to score this season, unlike Jack. However, Tyler has managed to avoid the disciplinary issues that led to Jack's sending off in the EFL Trophy match against Barnsley, where Jack protested a refereeing decision.
Father/Son Duos in the Premier League
If either of the Fletcher twins plays under their father during his interim tenure at United, they would join a select group of sons who have played under their fathers in the Premier League.
Notable examples include Jamie Redknapp, who played under his father Harry at Southampton, and former United center-back Steve Bruce, who managed his son Alex at Hull City. Additionally, Sir Alex Ferguson gave his son Darren 18 Premier League appearances during the 1992-93 season. In that same season, Nigel Clough participated in every match under his father Brian at Nottingham Forest.
