Tottenham Advances in Carabao Cup with Victory Over Doncaster
Tottenham Hotspur continued their impressive start under manager Thomas Frank, securing a place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a decisive victory against Doncaster Rovers.
Frank demonstrated the depth of his squad by making seven changes to the lineup that drew with Brighton on Saturday, yet the team maintained their momentum.
Mathys Tel had two early chances to score within the first three minutes; one shot was blocked, and a second attempt from eight yards went awry.
Tottenham quickly took the lead when Joao Palhinha, on loan from Bayern Munich, scored with an overhead kick after Doncaster failed to effectively clear a corner.
Three minutes later, defender Jay McGrath inadvertently doubled Tottenham's lead by diverting Wilson Odobert's cross into his own net.
Doncaster, who had previously upset Championship side Middlesbrough to reach this stage, struggled to match their Premier League opponents.

After the break, Doncaster came out with renewed intent, nearly scoring when Glenn Middleton's free-kick struck the side-netting.
Lucas Bergvall had a goal disallowed for offside in stoppage time, but Brennan Johnson capitalized on a clear opportunity to net a third goal for Tottenham with the final kick of the match.

On Tuesday, Frank acknowledged the need to rotate his squad for the Carabao Cup, especially as Tottenham competes on four fronts this season, having begun their Champions League campaign with a win and currently sitting third in the Premier League.
Even without key players like Richarlison, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Mohammed Kudus in the starting eleven, Tottenham presented a formidable and cohesive unit.
The speed of Johnson and Odobert on the wings kept Doncaster under pressure for extended periods, while Xavi Simons consistently posed a threat with his penetrating runs through the midfield.
Rovers' manager Grant McCann evidently instructed his players to adopt a more aggressive approach after halftime; however, Spurs, who have recorded five clean sheets this season, remained disciplined defensively.
With three upcoming matches, including a Champions League clash against Bodo/Glimt in Norway, it was expected that Tottenham would manage their energy levels and slow the game’s tempo in the second half.
Frank also expressed his desire to give a debut to a young player, which came true in the 87th minute when 16-year-old Luca Williams-Barnett made his first appearance in senior football.
