Tribute to Jimmy Bone: A Football Legacy Remembered
Jimmy Bone, the well-traveled Scottish former striker and manager, has passed away at the age of 75.
Bone began his football career with Partick Thistle and went on to play for several clubs, including Norwich City, Sheffield United, Celtic, St Mirren, Toronto Blizzard, Hong Kong Rangers, and Heart of Midlothian, as well as having two spells with Arbroath.
He earned two caps for the Scotland national team, notably scoring in a 4-1 World Cup qualifying victory against Denmark in 1974.
Throughout his career, Bone played a crucial role in helping Thistle and Norwich achieve promotion to their respective top divisions. He was also part of the Thistle squad that secured a memorable 4-1 win over Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final in 1971.
Additionally, he contributed to St Mirren's success in the Anglo-Scottish Cup, where they triumphed over Bristol City with a 5-1 aggregate score in the 1980 final.
Bone transitioned into coaching as player-boss of Arbroath in February 1985 and later managed Airdrieonians, guiding them to promotion to the Premier Division in 1991.
His managerial journey also included a stint with Power Dynamos in Zambia, where he won the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1991.
Bone's extensive managerial career included roles at St Mirren, East Fife, Wits University in South Africa's top division, and Stenhousemuir, as well as a caretaker position at Partick Thistle.
He also served as an assistant coach with Ross County and Chester City.
