Victor Osimhen Shines as Galatasaray Secures Second Champions League Win
Victor Osimhen scored twice and assisted another goal as Galatasaray celebrated their second consecutive Champions League victory with a convincing win over Bodo/Glimt.
The Nigerian forward delivered an impressive performance, netting two first-half goals and providing an assist to Yunus Akgun in the second half, marking back-to-back wins in the competition for the first time since December 2012.
Substitute Andreas Helmersen managed to score a late consolation goal for the Norwegian champions, who are still searching for their first victory in the league stage.
Following a narrow victory against Liverpool in their previous match, Galatasaray climbed from 21st to 11th in the standings before the evening's later fixtures commenced.
Galatasaray took an early lead when Osimhen finished a low shot into the bottom corner after receiving a pass from Mario Lemina.
The 26-year-old added his second goal of the night—and his fifth of the campaign—shortly after the half-hour mark, capitalizing on a disastrous backpass from Fredrik Bjorkan. He rounded the visiting goalkeeper, Nikita Haikin, to slot the ball into an empty net.
Osimhen could have claimed the match ball, as he missed two excellent chances to secure a hat-trick, having achieved this feat just eight days prior for Nigeria against Benin on October 14.
However, his tackle on Bodo/Glimt defender Haitam Aleesami led to a third goal for the Turkish champions, with Akgun finding the bottom corner after his initial attempt was saved.
Despite Jens Hauge firing wide from a good position and Sondre Fet hitting the post in a disappointing outing for the visitors, they did manage to score through Helmersen's close-range header from Bjorkan's chipped cross.
Bodo/Glimt remains on two points from earlier draws and finds themselves in the elimination zone after three matches.
