Wolves Coach Confirms Jorgen Strand Larsen Will Remain at Club Amid Transfer Speculation
Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Vitor Pereira has confirmed that striker Jorgen Strand Larsen "will stay with us" following his absence during the recent loss to Everton, which came amid two rejected transfer bids from Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old forward was the subject of offers amounting to £55 million and £50 million from the Magpies, both of which were declined by Wolves.
Newcastle, having recently signed German forward Nick Woltemade, is actively seeking additional attacking options as Alexander Isak attempts to negotiate a move to Liverpool. The Swedish striker is currently in a standoff with Newcastle and has yet to feature this season.
Strand Larsen, who made his loan move from Celta Vigo permanent for £23 million this summer, watched from the stands at Molineux as Wolves suffered a 3-2 defeat to Everton on Saturday.
When asked by Sky Sports about the Norwegian's future at the club ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, Pereira expressed optimism: "I hope so. He is an important player. If he plays, his quality could provide us with something extra. We are not in a position to sell our best players. The information I have is that he will stay with us."
Wolves are reluctant to part with the Norway international, primarily due to the limited time available to find a suitable replacement, with the transfer window closing soon. Additionally, Strand Larsen's contributions are deemed vital for the club's chances of remaining in the Premier League.
Pereira emphasized to BBC Match of the Day that the team needs to focus on acquiring more players rather than selling key assets.
With just two days remaining in the transfer window, Liverpool has yet to submit a revised offer for Isak after their initial £110 million bid was rejected on August 1.
Meanwhile, Newcastle continues to pursue another forward signing, a move that could facilitate Isak's potential transfer to Liverpool.
