Wolves Reject Newcastle's Second Bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen
Wolves have declined a second bid from Newcastle United for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The Magpies returned with an offer of £55 million after their initial proposal of £50 million was rejected earlier this week.
Wolves are unwilling to part with the Norway international, primarily due to the limited time available to find a replacement before the transfer window closes on Monday. Additionally, Strand Larsen's contributions are deemed crucial for the club's survival in the Premier League.
Newcastle is in search of additional attacking options, especially with Alexander Isak attempting to secure a move to Liverpool. The Swedish forward is currently in a standoff with the Magpies and has yet to feature this season.
Strand Larsen, who made his loan move from Celta Vigo permanent for £23 million this summer, recently made a significant impact by scoring twice in the final eight minutes of Wolves' 3-2 victory over West Ham in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
Following the match, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira did not dismiss the possibility of a sale, despite his desire to retain the forward. He stated, "Football is football and every player has a price, even [Lionel] Messi or Cristiano [Ronaldo]. I understand football, but for me, it's very important for us. We will see what happens. If it's my decision, of course [he stays]. He is a very important player."
Newcastle presents an appealing option for Strand Larsen, who scored 14 Premier League goals last season. However, he has maintained a professional demeanor, and Pereira believes the 25-year-old will not push for a transfer. He remarked, "I know many players in my career in this situation, and they have asked me not to play, but he wants to play every time. He wants to help the team. In the last seven or eight months I've been with him, I know him very well. He will never force a move. Of course, we know football is unpredictable, but I want to keep the best players like him with us."
