Wrexham's Non-Executive Director Defends Manager Amid Speculation
Wrexham's non-executive director, Shaun Harvey, has condemned the speculation surrounding manager Phil Parkinson's future at the club, calling it "an absolute disgrace."
A recent report suggested that discussions had taken place among the club's hierarchy regarding the 57-year-old manager due to Wrexham's disappointing start to the 2025-26 season.
However, Harvey dismissed these claims, asserting that Parkinson has the full backing of the club's key decision-makers at the Racecourse Ground.
"It's an absolute disgrace," Harvey stated in an interview with the Fearless in Devotion podcast, addressing the rumors about Parkinson's future. "While we are all disappointed to have only secured four points so far, to suggest that discussions and meetings about his position have occurred is simply unacceptable."
Wrexham's recent 3-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers marked their third loss in five league matches, leaving the team in 21st place in the Championship ahead of their upcoming match against Norwich City.
Despite the team's struggles, Harvey emphasized that the club will not panic as they work to improve their performance. He stated, "Phil has the full support of everyone at the club. I know some may interpret this as a vote of confidence, but it is not. What I mean is that he has our complete support. A vote of confidence is given when there has been discussion about the future, and that has not been on the agenda at all."
Harvey continued, "If that day comes, a decision will need to be made. But for now, Phil is our man. We have supported him from the beginning, and we have enjoyed significant success under his leadership. Why should we start to panic now?"
Following three consecutive promotions, Wrexham made significant changes to their squad over the summer, bringing in 13 new players for their first season in the second tier since 1981-82. Harvey explained that this overhaul was essential due to the club's remarkable ascent through the football ranks.
"What we undertook was seismic in nature," Harvey remarked. "Typically, clubs experience such drastic changes due to underlying problems. In our case, it was driven by the opposite—our success."
