Wycombe Secures Carabao Cup Victory Under New Manager Michael Duff
Wycombe Wanderers continued their successful start under new manager Michael Duff with a well-deserved victory in the Carabao Cup against fellow League One side Wigan Athletic.
Duff, who previously managed Huddersfield Town, took the reins at Wycombe last week and has now led the team to two consecutive wins, the latest of which took place at the largely empty Brick Community Stadium.
The match experienced an early interruption when an assistant referee suffered an injury, resulting in a six-minute stoppage. Following the resumption, Wigan's Ollie Cooper came close to scoring with a powerful shot.
However, Wycombe showcased their dominance in possession and broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark. Caolan Boyd-Munce netted his first goal for the club with a beautifully curled left-footed shot from the edge of the area.
Wigan's Will Aimson had a golden opportunity to equalize but missed the target, scooping the ball over from close range, as the hosts struggled to register any shots on target throughout the match.
In the second half, on-loan Nottingham Forest forward Donnell McNeilly extended Wycombe's lead with a header, propelling Wanderers into the fourth round of the tournament.
This victory marks the impressive achievement of 14 different goalscorers for Duff's new team this season.
