Andy Carroll, the former striker for Newcastle, Liverpool, and West Ham, has signed with sixth-tier Dagenham & Redbridge on a free transfer.
Carroll has agreed to a reported three-year contract with the National League South team after departing Bordeaux last month.
The 36-year-old left the French fourth-tier club after just one season, seeking to be closer to his children.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Carroll mentioned that although he received offers from higher leagues, finding the "right fit" was a priority.
"The level doesn't matter, as long as I get to play football," Carroll stated. "I'm here to show that playing for the love of the game, rather than money or level, is my focus."
He added, "This could be fantastic. We have a project to elevate the team from non-league status back up the leagues."
Born in Gateshead, Carroll scored 54 goals in 248 Premier League appearances during his time with Newcastle United, Liverpool, and West Ham United.
He later played for Reading and West Bromwich Albion before joining the French second-tier team Amiens in 2023.
Between 2010 and 2012, Carroll earned nine caps for England, scoring two goals.
On the same day Carroll was signed, Dagenham & Redbridge announced a sale agreement with a consortium of private investors from Qatar.
The Daggers were previously acquired by Club Underdog, a subsidiary of the US-based North Six Group, in May 2024.
"Completion of the transaction is pending legal finalization and approvals from the FA and the National League," stated Dagenham & Redbridge.
