Antoine Semenyo Eligible for EFL Cup Semi-Final Against Newcastle United
Manchester City will have Antoine Semenyo available for their EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle United following a change in the competition's rules this season.
Semenyo, 26, joined Pep Guardiola's team in a £65 million deal from Bournemouth and made a scoring debut in the FA Cup third round, contributing to a 10-1 victory over Exeter City.
The Ghana international previously came off the bench for Bournemouth during an EFL Cup second-round defeat against Brentford in August, which would have rendered him cup-tied in earlier seasons.
However, according to EFL rule 6.4, a player is now allowed to compete for up to two clubs in the competition within a single season.
Max Alleyne, who was recently recalled from his loan at Championship side Watford, is also eligible to play against Newcastle in the first leg of the semi-final on Tuesday after participating in the first round of the competition.
Chelsea forward Marc Guiu has similarly benefited from the rule change, having played for Sunderland on loan against Huddersfield Town in the second round before returning to Chelsea prior to the close of the summer transfer window.
