Valencia center-back Cristhian Mosquera has reached a personal agreement with Arsenal, bringing his transfer to the Premier League club one step closer.
BBC Sport had earlier reported that Arsenal was in negotiations to acquire the 21-year-old, and now another aspect of the deal has been finalized.
Arsenal has been seeking to strengthen their defense by bringing in a young player to compete with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
Mosquera, capable of playing both center-back and right-back, is expected to fill the vacancy left by Takehiro Tomiyasu, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
The Spain Under-21 international has made 90 appearances for Valencia, being a key player last season by participating in 37 out of 38 La Liga matches.
Arsenal has been active this transfer window, having signed Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Christian Norgaard from Brentford, and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.
The club is also close to securing a deal with Sporting for striker Viktor Gyokeres, aiming to finalize the transfer within the next 24 hours for 73.5 million euros (£63.5 million).
