Arsenal's Gabriel Out for Weeks Due to Thigh Injury
Arsenal defender Gabriel will be sidelined for several weeks due to a thigh injury sustained while on international duty, according to head coach Mikel Arteta.
The center-back limped off during Brazil's friendly match against Senegal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend and was subsequently unable to participate in a draw against Tunisia three days later.
The 27-year-old has been in excellent form for the Gunners this season, playing a crucial role in a defense that has conceded just five league goals, helping the team establish a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Arteta confirmed, "Gabi is going to be out for weeks," and mentioned that the defender will undergo another scan next Wednesday, which is expected to provide a clearer timeline for his recovery.
Gabriel, who joined Arsenal from Lille for £23.1 million in 2020, has started all 11 of the club's Premier League matches this season.
Arsenal is set to face rivals Tottenham this Sunday at 16:30 GMT.
Additionally, defender Riccardo Califiori is a doubt for the north London derby after withdrawing from international duty with Italy due to a hip issue.
Califiori has not yet trained since returning to London, but Arteta stated he will be given every opportunity to demonstrate his fitness. "He has been carrying a few things," Arteta noted. "He hasn’t trained yet. Tomorrow we have another training session; let’s see how he is."
Meanwhile, Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury.
