Beşiktaş's captain and goalkeeper, Mert Günok, stated that their goal for the new season is to win the championship.
The experienced goalkeeper remarked, "The fact that Beşiktaş has had a poor performance for the past two seasons doesn't change our objective. The goal is to become champions. We must always know how to rise from where we have fallen. We have made quality transfers, and for this reason, we want to start the season as the number one favorite for the championship. We are starting the season early for this purpose. We also have a European journey ahead of us, and we aim to make early progress and continue successfully."
BEING REALISTIC
Discussing the team's European ambitions, Günok added, "As you know, the final in Europe will be played in our stadium. We would love to reach that stage and witness the final. However, being realistic, it's important to proceed step by step. Our first goal is to pass the qualifying rounds and reach the group stage. We will reassess our goals after that."
WANT TO RETIRE AT 40
Günok expressed his desire to continue playing until the age of 40, saying, "My goal is to retire precisely at 40. Of course, life is unpredictable. I might say 40 and retire at 41, or say 41 and it might be 42. It all depends on how well you take care of yourself and your discipline. I have always been a disciplined and hardworking player."
