Celtic Appoints Grant Scott as New Women's Team Head Coach
Former SWPL title-winning manager Elena Sadiku has departed from Celtic, with Hibernian's Grant Scott stepping in as her successor.
Sadiku, 32, was appointed in January 2024 following the departure of Fran Alonso and led Celtic to their first-ever SWPL title during her initial six months in charge.
Scott, who guided Hibernian to the title last season, will now take the reins at Celtic as Sadiku seeks new opportunities.
"It is a huge honour to join Celtic, and I am eager to continue the excellent work at the club, striving for even greater success," Scott stated.
"I’m thrilled to join at a time when the new Barrowfield Training Centre is providing our women’s team with every opportunity to develop, creating the best possible environment for players and academy prospects to train and excel each day.
"I have a track record of delivering success, and together we will aim to ensure that Celtic remains at the forefront of women's football."
Under Sadiku's leadership, Celtic made history by qualifying for the Champions League group stages for the first time, narrowly losing to Chelsea and facing tougher matches against Real Madrid.
However, the team struggled in the latter part of the league season, finishing fourth and 15 points behind eventual champions Hibernian.
Currently, Celtic sits fourth in the SWPL table, trailing leaders Glasgow City by seven points. Scott leaves Hibernian in fifth place, six points behind his new team.
Michael Nicholson, Celtic's chief executive, expressed gratitude to Sadiku for her significant contributions during a successful period, stating, "Everyone at Celtic would like to thank Elena for her historic contribution. We are pleased to welcome Grant Scott as head coach of our women's team, who brings a strong record in Scottish women's football and has proven success in leading competitive teams, most recently guiding Hibernian to their first league title in 18 years last season.
"We believe he is the right person to lead the next important phase of women's football at Celtic."
In her farewell, Sadiku thanked the Celtic fans, saying, "Thank you for your support and for always being there when we needed you. Your presence, both home and away, meant a lot to me, and the connection we built will always be cherished.
"Celtic will always be a part of my journey, and I wish everyone at the club continued success in the future."
