Charlton vs Portsmouth Match Abandoned Due to Medical Emergency
Charlton Athletic's Championship match against Portsmouth at The Valley was abandoned after just 12 minutes due to a medical emergency in the stands.
The players initially remained on the pitch while emergency personnel addressed the situation in the lower tier of the Covered End. However, referee Matthew Donohue later instructed them to return to the dressing rooms.
The match, which had not seen any goals scored, was officially called off nearly an hour after the incident.
In a statement, Charlton Athletic expressed, "Due to a medical emergency in the crowd, today's match has been abandoned. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to the supporter affected and we thank our medical team and first responders."
They also noted that details regarding the rescheduling of the match would be announced in due course.
Portsmouth also released a statement, saying, "Our thoughts and best wishes are with the individual involved and their family."
