FAI Announces Voluntary Redundancy Program Amid Restructuring
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has announced the launch of a voluntary redundancy program, indicating that it may need to proceed with compulsory job losses as part of its efforts to modernize the delivery of football in Ireland.
On Wednesday, the FAI, which governs the sport in the Republic of Ireland, stated that it will begin a restructuring process in the coming days, starting with the introduction of this voluntary redundancy initiative.
Once the voluntary program is complete, the association plans to assess its progress towards its long-term vision and will then consider a phase of redeployment before finalizing the number of compulsory redundancies that may be necessary.
The FAI emphasized that these changes are aimed at fostering internal cultural transformation, introducing specialized skill sets, and enhancing financial stability.
The decision to implement these changes was influenced by extensive research, including UEFA benchmarking and external advice from specialized consultancy firms.
The findings indicated that the FAI currently lacks the necessary framework and specific skills to effectively implement critical strategies, such as the FAI Football Pathways Plan, and to meet the evolving demands of Irish football at all levels.
The association warned that without job cuts, the Republic of Ireland would struggle to succeed in both men's and women's football, which could adversely affect local football across the country.
"The association must undertake this process to ensure that all clubs, communities, and counties are optimally served, allowing Irish football to cultivate a competitive playing culture and provide positive participation experiences for everyone, while continuing to develop the sport at local, regional, national, and international levels," the FAI concluded.
