Fulham's Raul Jimenez Shines as Premier League's Top Penalty Taker
Fulham has finally converted its first Premier League penalty in nearly a year, and the outcome was never in doubt. Raul Jimenez successfully slotted home the Cottagers' penalty during their 1-0 victory against Nottingham Forest, marking the team's first spot-kick since their 2-2 draw with Ipswich in January 2025.
With this conversion, Jimenez has joined Yaya Toure as the only players to have scored all of their penalties after taking ten or more, with both players achieving a perfect record of 11 successful penalties from 11 attempts.
In December 2024, Chelsea's Cole Palmer surpassed Toure when he netted two penalties against Tottenham, bringing his tally to 12 from 12. However, he later had a penalty saved against Leicester in March, ending his flawless record.
Jimenez is now just two successful penalties away from becoming the Premier League player with the most successful spot-kicks before missing one.
Discussing his approach, Jimenez stated, "I always wait for the goalkeeper to move before striking the ball. It's something I've trained for throughout my career. I enjoy the pressure that comes with these penalties, and I'm pleased to have scored. I've never missed a penalty in the Premier League, and I'm eager to maintain that record. More penalties are on the way, and I’ll be ready for them."
Bryan Mbeumo also joined the ranks of perfect penalty takers when he converted 10 out of 10 in April, but his flawless record was cut short when he had a penalty saved against Fulham a month later.
Former Brentford teammate Ivan Toney also had a perfect record of 10 out of 10 but fell short of Toure's achievement when he missed his 11th penalty against Newcastle in 2023.
The Premier League's Most Clinical Penalty Takers
Alan Shearer holds the record for the most penalties scored in Premier League history, with 56 successful conversions from 67 attempts. Former Southampton star Matt le Tissier boasts the third-best conversion rate among players who have taken 10 or more penalties, scoring 24 of 25 attempts.
Le Tissier's only missed penalty in the Premier League came against Nottingham Forest's Mark Crossley in March 1993, during just his third spot-kick attempt.
Danny Murphy ranks fourth on the list, having scored 18 of his 19 penalties. Other notable players include James Beattie (17 out of 18) and Julian Dicks (15 out of 16), both of whom missed only once.
Current Premier League penalty takers with impressive records include West Ham's Callum Wilson, who has scored 16 from 17 attempts, Bukayo Saka with 12 from 13, and Alexander Isak, who has converted 11 of 12 penalties.
