Injury Concerns for Manchester United's Matheus Cunha Ahead of Everton Match
Injuries to players are typically disclosed through official club channels or during a manager's press conference.
However, a scheduled appearance by Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha to illuminate the Christmas lights in Altrincham has raised injury concerns among fans.
The Brazilian forward was set to attend the event alongside Sam Aston, known for his role as Chesney on Coronation Street, on Saturday evening—just two days before United's Premier League match against Everton on Monday.
Yet, mere hours before the festive celebration, organizers Visit Altrincham announced via Facebook that Cunha would not be present "due to medical reasons" following an "accident in training."
Manchester United has yet to provide further details or confirm whether this incident will impact Cunha's availability for the match against Everton.
BBC Sport has reached out to the club for comment, and it is understood that the appearance was not coordinated through the club.
Cunha, who joined the team for £62.5 million from Wolves this summer, has been instrumental in United's resurgence this season, with Ruben Amorim's side remaining unbeaten in their last five matches.
He netted his first goal for the club in a 4-2 victory over Brighton in October and participated in both of Brazil's friendlies during the recent international break.
On Friday, head coach Amorim confirmed that striker Benjamin Sesko would be sidelined until mid-next month due to a knee injury.
If Cunha is unable to play on Monday, it would necessitate a significant reshuffle in the lineup. Mason Mount could be considered, while Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee might also be included in Amorim's starting eleven for the first time this season in the Premier League.
This situation also opens the door for a potential call-up for England Under-20 international Shea Lacey, who has been performing well in United's Premier League 2 squad this season.
