Jess Fishlock Bids Farewell as Wales Falls to Australia
Jess Fishlock said goodbye to international football as Wales suffered a 2-1 defeat against Australia at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Fishlock played for 92 minutes, earning her 166th and final cap, but the match ended on a disappointing note for the midfielder, who saw a late winner from Caitlin Foord seal the victory for Australia.
Despite the result, which carried little significance, the match marked the conclusion of an era as Wales now faces the challenge of moving forward without their most influential player.
Wearing the captain's armband, Fishlock showcased the quality and determination that has established her as a legend in Welsh football, receiving a heartfelt farewell from a crowd of over 11,000 as she was substituted in stoppage time.
For a time, it appeared Wales might secure a draw against the 15th-ranked team in the world, following a memorable first international goal from Mared Griffiths that equalized after Courtney Nevin's opener.
However, as Wales began to fade in the latter stages, Foord capitalized on a cross from Kyra Cooney-Cross to deliver the decisive goal for the visitors.
