Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall Criticizes Suspension After Accumulation of Yellow Cards
Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall expressed his disbelief over receiving a suspension after accumulating five yellow cards in just six Premier League matches.
Dewsbury-Hall received his latest booking for a challenge on Kyle Walker-Peters during Monday's 1-1 draw against West Ham, resulting in his absence for Sunday’s match against Crystal Palace.
“Forgive me if I’m wrong, and I might be, but some of these decisions are so hard to take. It’s mind boggling,” the 27-year-old posted on X.
While it is not uncommon for players to be suspended for accumulating yellow cards at this stage of the season, as seen with Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson two seasons ago, Dewsbury-Hall's situation has raised eyebrows.
Everton manager David Moyes criticized referee Samuel Barrott's decision to issue a yellow card, labeling it as “shabby” and questioning the overall quality of officiating in the Premier League.
“The decisions we’ve had recently have been frustrating, and I think all the managers might be feeling the same way,” Moyes stated. “There’s been a general poor standard lately. I thought the decision on Dewsbury-Hall was particularly shabby.”
Dewsbury-Hall has started all six of Everton's league matches since joining the club from Chelsea in August for approximately £28 million. His fourth yellow card was issued during a 2-1 defeat to Merseyside rivals Liverpool on September 20 for taking a quick free-kick, a decision that teammate Jack Grealish also criticized, stating he had “never seen that in my life.”
