Liverpool's Arne Slot Remembers Diogo Jota Ahead of Nottingham Forest Match
Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed the team's deep sense of loss for Diogo Jota, both as a player and a person.
The Portuguese winger tragically passed away in a car accident last summer at the age of 28.
Former Liverpool teammate Andy Robertson revealed he was emotionally affected throughout the day on Tuesday, just before Scotland secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup with a thrilling win over Denmark that evening.
"I couldn’t stop thinking about my friend Diogo Jota today," Robertson said. "We talked a lot about going to the World Cup, as he missed the last one with Portugal and I did with Scotland. I know he would have been smiling down on me today."
Slot commented, "I watched Robertson’s interview live and I understand how significant this is for us, which is entirely natural. At this moment, I often think about how his wife and children must feel. It is undoubtedly much harder for them than it is for us. However, it is clear that we miss both the player and the person."
The Reds have struggled recently, losing four of their last five Premier League matches, including a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium prior to the international break.
This loss left Liverpool in eighth place in the league, trailing leaders Arsenal by eight points. They will host Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday at 15:00 GMT.
In last season's league encounter against Forest, Jota scored just 22 seconds after coming on as a substitute in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
