Manchester United Considers Emiliano Martinez Ahead of Transfer Deadline
Manchester United is contemplating a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as the transfer deadline approaches on Monday.
The club has been actively seeking solutions for their goalkeeping challenges and has been in discussions with Royal Antwerp regarding their promising 23-year-old goalkeeper, Senne Lammens.
Lammens is eager to join United and has been excluded from Antwerp's last two matches. The Belgian Pro League team is under pressure to make a significant sale to meet an external loan obligation.
However, Lammens lacks the high-level experience that Martinez possesses, who is a World Cup champion with Argentina and a two-time FIFA goalkeeper of the year, boasting 197 Premier League appearances.
Following Saturday's 3-2 win over Burnley, United's head coach, Ruben Amorim, acknowledged the difficulties of being a goalkeeper at Manchester United at this time.
Current goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana have both made errors this season. Bayindir's latest mistake nearly cost United a victory against Burnley, saved only by Bruno Fernandes' injury-time penalty.
Galatasaray has also shown interest in Lammens but may consider Bayindir or Onana if United opts for the Belgian youth international.
Sources within United emphasized that they intend to sign no more than one goalkeeper before the transfer window closes at 19:00 BST on Monday.
Earlier in the summer, they inquired about acquiring the 32-year-old Martinez on loan, but Aston Villa declined their interest.
Despite appearing to bid farewell to Villa supporters at the end of last season, Martinez participated in last week's match against Brentford.
