Mohamed Salah Named PFA Men's Player of the Year
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been awarded the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Men's Player of the Year, while Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers has been recognized as the Young Player of the Year.
Sir Gareth Southgate has been honored with the PFA Merit Award for 2025, acknowledging his significant contributions to football and his achievements with the England national team.
Salah, aged 33, has made history as the first player to win this prestigious award three times, following his instrumental role in Liverpool's title victory last season.
The Egyptian international was the Premier League's top scorer for the 2024-25 season, netting 29 goals and providing 18 assists.
Other nominees for the award included Salah's teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Chelsea forward Cole Palmer, and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.
In addition to the PFA award, Salah also received the Premier League Player of the Season award and was named the Football Writers' Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year.
Rogers Enjoys Breakthrough Season
Rogers is the fifth Aston Villa player to win the Young Player of the Year award, joining the ranks of Andy Gray, Gary Shaw, Ashley Young, and James Milner.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that an English player has received this honor.
Aston Villa acquired Rogers from Middlesbrough for approximately £15 million in February 2024, and he became a key player under manager Unai Emery last season.
The 23-year-old made 54 appearances across all competitions, scoring 14 goals, as Villa secured a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and made it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
He also earned his first senior England call-up in November, debuting against Greece and subsequently earning six caps.
Other contenders for the Young Player of the Year award included Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez, who transferred from Bournemouth to Real Madrid and Liverpool respectively, and Liam Delap, now with Chelsea after impressive performances at Ipswich.
In other awards, goalkeeper James Trafford, who joined Manchester City last month, was named Championship Player of the Year after achieving 29 clean sheets, helping Burnley secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Striker Richard Kone, currently with Queens Park Rangers, received the League One award after scoring 18 goals for Wycombe, while the League Two award went to Bromley striker Michael Cheek, who won the Golden Boot with 25 goals.
Southgate's England Exploits Rewarded
Southgate is the fifth former England manager to receive the merit award since its inception in 1974.
During his eight-year tenure from 2016 to 2024, Southgate led England to four major tournaments, reaching the finals of Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, as well as the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
Before his appointment as the senior team manager, Southgate spent three years managing the Under-21s, where he developed future stars with the Young Lions.
The 54-year-old is one of only three managers to oversee 100 matches with England, having taken charge in 102 games.
Southgate introduced 42 new players to the national team, nearly double the number compared to any other England manager, revitalizing the squad.
