Neymar Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery
Brazil and Santos forward Neymar has successfully undergone surgery on his left knee to repair a damaged meniscus.
The 33-year-old has been coping with this injury throughout a challenging season for Santos, where he played a crucial role in helping the club avoid relegation from Brazil's top division.
Santos announced that Brazil's national team doctor performed the arthroscopic procedure. This doctor has previously operated on Neymar for a foot fracture and for the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture he sustained in 2023.
The successful operation enhances Neymar's prospects of being included in Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti's plans for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
A former star at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar is Brazil's all-time leading scorer, with 79 goals in 128 appearances. However, he has not represented his country in over two years.
Neymar returned to his boyhood club Santos in January after making just seven appearances for Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal over a span of 18 months.
Despite his knee pain, he played a vital role in Santos' survival, scoring five goals in the last four matches of the season.
His contract with Santos is set to expire at the end of the year, but he is currently in discussions with the club regarding a new agreement.
