Nigeria Advances to Semi-Finals of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams shone as Nigeria secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a decisive victory over Algeria.
The West African team dominated the first half in Marrakech, with Adams missing a golden opportunity to score just eight minutes before halftime, curling his shot narrowly over the crossbar.
Osimhen opened the scoring for the Super Eagles only 85 seconds into the second half, directing a header from Bruno Onyemaechi's deep cross into the net, marking his fourth goal of the tournament.
Adams doubled Nigeria's lead ten minutes later, skillfully rounding Algeria's goalkeeper Luca Zidane after receiving a well-placed pass from Osimhen during a fluid attacking move.
Adams nearly made it 3-0, but his header from another Osimhen cross struck the left post with just nine minutes remaining in the match.
Having finished as runners-up in the 2023 edition, Nigeria is set to face host nation Morocco in the semi-finals in Rabat on Wednesday at 20:00 GMT.
