Former England and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paul Gascoigne is "doing well" following a brief hospital stay, according to his representatives.
The 58-year-old sought medical attention at the accident and emergency department on Friday due to a persistent throat condition.
His agency, MNT, released a statement saying, "Paul voluntarily visited A&E on Friday (not via ambulance) after experiencing ongoing issues with a throat condition. He was discharged after a short stay and is now resting and in good spirits."
The Sun had reported on Sunday that Gascoigne was "rushed" to an intensive care unit after being found by a friend, a claim that has since been clarified by his representatives.
Gascoigne, who earned 57 caps for England, is celebrated as one of the country's finest footballers. He began his professional career at Newcastle United, his childhood club, before transferring to Tottenham Hotspur in 1988, where he achieved FA Cup victory in 1991.
His career later took him to Lazio, followed by stints at Rangers, Middlesbrough, and Everton upon his return to the UK.
Off the field, Gascoigne has faced challenges with alcohol addiction and depression since his retirement in 2004.
