Rangers Secure Fifth Consecutive Victory with Solid Performance Against Aberdeen
Manager Danny Rohl expressed enthusiasm about various aspects of Rangers' controlled 2-0 victory against Aberdeen, highlighting his team's "clean sheet mentality."
This win marks Rangers' fifth consecutive victory, keeping them three points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts.
Since Rohl took charge in October, the team has conceded only eight goals in 14 league matches, winning 11 of those and achieving eight clean sheets.
In contrast, Rangers managed only one clean sheet during Russell Martin's seven Premiership games, which included a dull Old Firm derby draw.
"We defended until the end and secured a clean sheet," Rohl told RangersTV. "This is the foundation for our success. If we continue this way, we will be in an excellent position. We must stay proactive, hungry, ambitious, and humble when necessary."
Despite challenging weather conditions at Pittodrie, Aberdeen was limited to just five shots on target, with Jack Butland's most significant save coming from Leighton Clarkson in the first half.
"I take great pride in my team for coming to such a tough venue," Rohl stated during the post-match press conference. "We demonstrated various strengths, which is essential for our development. We played robust football, were prepared for duels, and effectively managed second balls. We understood when to penetrate behind their defense and when to maintain possession in the right areas. The result is satisfying, and it's wonderful to see our progress with five consecutive wins."
Rangers' defensive solidity is particularly impressive given the absence of first-choice center-backs John Souttar and Derek Cornelius. Cornelius has been sidelined since early November, while Souttar missed six matches.
However, the Scotland international's return has coincided with the team's current five-game winning streak. Souttar made a crucial early block against Nicolas Milanovic at Pittodrie and consistently organized the defense, keeping Emmanuel Fernandez focused despite some occasional lapses.
Fernandez, who was playing in England's League One last season, has emerged as an imposing figure, scoring four goals in his last 11 starts, though he was denied another by a controversial VAR call in Aberdeen. A threat during set-pieces in the opponent's box, he is also effective at clearing them at the other end, which may lead to Nasser Djiga waiting on the bench following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations with Burkina Faso.
Injury prevented Connor Barron from returning to his former club, and the determined midfielder is now facing up to three months on the sidelines after a strong run of form.
Rangers managed to compensate for his absence as Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande worked well together, with Thelo Aasgaard scoring his third goal in five matches to open the scoring.

Hours before kick-off, Tochi Chukwuani was announced as the club's first signing of January, expected to bring physicality and pace to the midfield.
"Tochi will add a strong physical presence and has significant European experience," Rohl explained. "However, it's crucial to acknowledge the hard work of the current squad. They deserve immense credit. We need competition in various positions, and our development over the past 10-12 weeks has been outstanding for several players. Once again, look at Thelo; he scored again and is moving in the right direction."
Rohl has done an impressive job guiding Rangers, and fans will be satisfied as long as clean sheets and victories continue to accumulate, regardless of the spectacle of the matches.
