Rangers Withdraw Request to Postpone Match Against St Mirren
Rangers have retracted their request to postpone their Scottish Premiership match against St Mirren in the event they advance to the Champions League play-off round.
Russell Martin's team is favored to progress past Viktoria Plzen, having secured a 3-0 lead going into Tuesday's away leg of their third qualifying round tie.
Initially, Rangers had suggested they might require a weekend off between the first and second legs against either Salzburg or Club Brugge, should they advance.
However, the Scottish Professional Football League announced, "Following further discussions with Rangers, St Mirren, and relevant stakeholders, we can confirm that Rangers have withdrawn their request."
The match is now scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 24, with a kick-off time of 12:00 BST, and will be broadcast live from the SMiSA Stadium.
Currently, Rangers are positioned four points behind reigning champions Celtic after starting their domestic season with two draws. Had they postponed the match against St Mirren, they could have found themselves seven points adrift heading into the first Old Firm derby of the season on August 31.
