Salah Apologizes to Teammates Amid Transfer Speculation
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has issued an apology to his teammates following a recent outburst, according to Reds midfielder Curtis Jones.
In a candid interview, Salah expressed feeling "thrown under the bus" by Liverpool and indicated that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had deteriorated.
The Egyptian international made these remarks after a disappointing run of form for Liverpool and after being an unused substitute in a 3-3 draw against Leeds United on December 6.
Subsequently, Salah was left out of the squad for a Champions League victory against Inter Milan but returned as a substitute in a home win against Brighton.
"Mo is his own man and he can express his thoughts," Jones stated to Sky Sports prior to Liverpool's match against Tottenham. "He apologized to us, saying, 'If I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologize.' That’s the kind of person he is.
"From my experience with Mo, he has been positive, maintaining a big smile on his face, and the team has responded positively to him. It’s simply part of his desire to win, and I don’t think he will be the last to feel this way."
Salah assisted in Liverpool's second goal during a 2-0 victory against Brighton, prompting home fans to chant his name. He also took a lap of honor at Anfield following this match before joining the Egyptian national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, his comments following the Leeds game have raised questions about his future at Liverpool, particularly with interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and the January transfer window approaching.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher criticized Salah's remarks as a "disgrace," while ex-Blackburn and Celtic striker Chris Sutton noted that the comments have caused significant turmoil within the club.
Before the Tottenham match, Slot remarked that "we’ve moved on" as he sought to put the issue to rest.
Jones added, "I understand there are appropriate ways to address concerns, but if a player is content to sit on the bench and does not want to contribute to the team, that could be a more significant issue. Any frustration we've expressed, including my own, has always come from a good place. While it may not have been communicated perfectly at the moment, it was never intended to harm the team, the staff, or the manager. We have moved past that and are now building strong team chemistry, playing well, and starting to secure victories."
