Scott McKenna, the Scottish centre-half, has signed with Dinamo Zagreb following his departure from Las Palmas. The 28-year-old, originally from Angus, activated a release clause after Las Palmas' relegation from La Liga. He has now committed to a "multi-year" contract with Dinamo Zagreb, who finished as runners-up in Croatia's top division last season.
During his time at Las Palmas, McKenna made 31 appearances, starting in all but two of those matches. McKenna, who has earned 39 caps for Scotland, rose through the youth ranks at Aberdeen before making his first-team debut at Pittodrie. In 2020, he was transferred to Nottingham Forest.
After playing a key role in Nottingham Forest's promotion to the Premier League, McKenna faced injury setbacks that led to a loan move to Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga. In August, he joined Las Palmas, where he played alongside fellow Scotland international striker Oli McBurnie. Despite their efforts, Las Palmas ended the season second from the bottom in Spain's top league.
Dinamo Zagreb narrowly missed out on the Croatian league title, losing to Rijeka on a head-to-head tiebreaker, despite having a superior goal difference. Nevertheless, they have secured a direct spot in the Europa League and will begin the season under the guidance of their new head coach, Mario Kovacevic.
