Stoke City Secures Narrow Victory Over Hull City
Stoke City re-entered the Championship play-off race with a narrow victory against promotion-contending Hull City, in a match that featured 17 minutes of stoppage time.
Robert Bozenik scored his first goal for the Potters just before halftime, tapping in at the back post after a cross from Lamine Cisse. However, Bozenik later sustained a serious shoulder injury that led to a lengthy delay in play.
Hull City captain Lewie Coyle also required significant treatment for a head injury but managed to continue playing with a bandage.
The Tigers, who began the day in fourth place in the league, pressed hard for an equalizer after the break and struck the woodwork twice, including a shot in the 98th minute. However, they were unable to find the back of the net against debutant Stoke goalkeeper Tommy Simkin.
This result ended Hull's five-match unbeaten streak and propelled Stoke to ninth place in the standings with 37 points, just three points shy of the top six.
After a quiet first 15 minutes, Stoke came close to scoring through Bozenik’s effort from a Cisse cross. Hull had a chance to take the lead when center-back Charlie Hughes hit the crossbar after Regan Slater's initial shot was cleared off the line by Simkin.
The decisive moment of the match occurred in the 39th minute when Cisse delivered a low ball across the goal, allowing Bozenik to finish unmarked from close range.
Tragically for Bozenik, he was in the spotlight for an unfortunate reason; just a minute into the second half, he suffered an injury and required oxygen before leaving the pitch in tears.
Another lengthy pause occurred later in the match when Coyle needed treatment following a heavy challenge.
Despite the interruptions, both teams managed to maintain periods of pressure, with Hull nearly equalizing in stoppage time when Kasey Palmer's shot from the edge of the box struck the crossbar.

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic commented to BBC Radio Humberside: "It's a typical Championship match, especially at this time when games are coming thick and fast. You have to focus on recovery and mental preparation. In these moments, the team that possesses more energy, will, and desire can expect to achieve results. I anticipated this type of game, noticing many aerial challenges and long balls. I was particularly dissatisfied with our first-half performance, as we merely kicked the ball forward, making it easy to defend against. However, I'm not disappointed because I know the players gave their all on the pitch. Given our circumstances, we are consistently losing one or two players each match."
'A really good result' - Stoke reaction
Stoke City manager Mark Robins shared his thoughts with BBC Radio Stoke: "I’m thrilled with the result because it’s not easy to play here. The pitch wasn’t in great condition, but what stood out was our attempt to play and how we moved the ball. The support from our fans was outstanding; they have been incredible away from home, so I thank them for that. We faced several challenges this week, making this result even more commendable. It reflects the hard work at the training ground, especially from players who haven't had much game time. Things are starting to click, and the games feel different when you’ve played together. This was our third game in a short span, and we will be traveling to Norwich for another match on Sunday. It’s tough, really tough, and the players deserve immense credit for their efforts."
