Thierno Barry Scores First Goal as Everton Defeats Nottingham Forest
Thierno Barry finally scored his first goal for Everton, leading the Toffees to a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest and securing their position in the Premier League's top five.
Barry, who joined the club from Villarreal this summer, had gone through 16 matches without finding the net before scoring in the first half against Forest.
Everton started the match strongly, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's second-minute cross deflecting off Nikola Milenkovic and into the goal. They doubled their lead just before halftime when Iliman Ndiaye initiated a quick counter-attack, assisting Barry, who calmly placed the ball past goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Nottingham Forest struggled to generate significant chances, although Nicolas Dominguez did have a shot blocked on the line by James Tarkowski. Dewsbury-Hall later struck the outside of the post but secured Everton's third goal with a precise shot into the bottom corner.
This match marked a disappointing return for former Everton manager Sean Dyche, who was dismissed earlier this year following a poor run of results that left the team in relegation trouble. Dyche's replacement, David Moyes, has since revitalized the squad, positioning them for a potential top-10 finish.
Barry's Long-Awaited Goal
Barry's journey at Everton has been challenging since his transfer, compounded by fellow forward Beto's similar struggles in front of goal. The 23-year-old made his 10th start against Forest, yet had managed only one shot on target in his previous 16 appearances.
Despite his goal drought, Barry remains a fan favorite due to his hard work and aerial ability. However, the pressure to score was mounting, a burden that should now be lifted with this key goal. His clinical finish showcased his composure as he expertly placed the ball beyond Sels.
Barry left the field to a standing ovation in the second half, and both he and Everton supporters will be hopeful that this marks the beginning of a scoring streak for the striker.
Dyche's Unfortunate Return
Dyche has found some success with Nottingham Forest, achieving five wins in ten matches since taking over from Ange Postecoglou. However, despite recent improvements, the team remains in relegation peril, currently just three points ahead of West Ham, who are in the drop zone but have a game in hand.
Forest's match began poorly, with Nicolo Savona receiving a booking within the first 30 seconds and conceding the opening goal shortly thereafter. Their defensive errors were evident, contributing to Everton's first two goals, while the attack struggled, particularly Morgan Gibbs-White, who failed to make a significant impact.
This defeat was only Forest's second in their last six matches across all competitions, which they will hope to attribute to an off day.
