Thomas Frank Reflects on Unique Experience with Chelsea and Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has revealed that he held discussions with both Chelsea and Manchester United on the same day last year.
In May 2024, Frank met with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the United co-owner's garage before proceeding to a hotel in London for talks with Chelsea.
Manchester United retained their then-manager Erik ten Hag before appointing Ruben Amorim in November 2024, while Chelsea chose Enzo Maresca as their new head coach.
Frank, 52, remained with Brentford for an additional season before taking the helm at Tottenham in June 2025.
As he prepares to release a new book, Frank described that day as a surreal experience.
"Sitting down for interviews with two of the ten biggest clubs in the world – just two hours apart – is quite unique," he told TV 2 Sport. "Although I know I didn’t secure either position, it was still a significant moment for me.
"I remember walking through Battersea Park between the two interviews, thinking: 'Thomas Frank from Frederiksvaerk - am I really experiencing this?'" he added.
During his tenure at Brentford, Frank led the team to two top-10 finishes in the Premier League and currently has Tottenham positioned fifth after 11 matches this season.
He described his seven years at Brentford as 'unique' and acknowledged the new challenges he faces at Tottenham.
"I have often said that when we reflect on our time at Brentford, it might be the best period of our football careers, due to the exceptional atmosphere created between the squad and staff," he stated. "Now, I have a demanding job and a significant challenge ahead.
"It’s all-consuming – 24/7, 365 days a year – focused solely on winning and making progress."
Tottenham will next compete in the north London derby against rivals Arsenal on Sunday, November 23.
