Tottenham Hotspur Triumphs Over Manchester City in Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur secured their second consecutive Premier League victory under new manager Thomas Frank by stunning Manchester City once again at the Etihad Stadium.
Spurs had previously defeated City 4-0 during a remarkable performance last November and returned to the Etihad to claim all three points with a strong defensive display.
The match started slowly for Spurs as Omar Marmoush capitalized on a loose header from Pedro Porro, narrowly missing the far post with his shot. Marmoush continued to be a threat, forcing a powerful save from Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after being set up by Erling Haaland.
However, Tottenham struck first with their initial significant threat. A rapid counter-attack led to Richarlison delivering a low cross that was converted by Brennan Johnson. Although the goal was initially disallowed for offside, a review by the video assistant referee overturned the decision.
After seven minutes of added time in the first half, due to an injury to City left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, Spurs doubled their lead when Joao Palhinha capitalized on a wayward pass from James Trafford, smashing the ball into the net. This marked a challenging period for the City goalkeeper, who narrowly avoided a red card following a collision with Mohammed Kudus.
Haaland had a chance to reduce the deficit before halftime but headed his effort over from close range. In the second half, the home side struggled to find a breakthrough as Tottenham maintained their defensive resilience, achieving consecutive clean sheets this season.

Tottenham faced a challenging week after their unsuccessful pursuit of winger Eberechi Eze, who ultimately agreed to terms with their rivals Arsenal. The traveling supporters expressed their frustrations towards chairman Daniel Levy from the outset, chanting "we want Levy out," although by full-time, they were also singing "we love you Tottenham."
The players responded to the fans' sentiments with an impressive performance at City's ground, marking their third victory in the last five visits. Frank's squad had convincingly beaten Burnley in their opening match and capitalized on City's missed opportunities, taking full advantage when chances arose at the other end.
City's high defensive line was exploited when John Stones narrowly kept Richarlison onside, allowing him to set up Johnson for a well-taken finish. Spurs maintained their pressing game, forcing Trafford into an error, which led to Palhinha scoring his first goal since joining on loan from Bayern Munich.
Tottenham could have increased their lead in the second half, but Dominic Solanke's low drive was saved by Trafford, and Wilson Odobert was denied on the rebound.
