Trearddur Bay FC Suspends Player Amid Police Investigation
Trearddur Bay FC, a club in Wales' third tier, has suspended one of its players while police investigate an incident that occurred during a match on Saturday.
Tom Taylor has been suspended with immediate effect after an incident in which he allegedly elbowed a Porthmadog FC player in the face.
The incident took place during the Ardal North West League match between the two amateur teams on January 17.
Footage circulating on social media appears to show Taylor making contact with the Porthmadog player during the game held at Y Traeth (The Beach) stadium in Gwynedd.
In a statement, Trearddur Bay FC confirmed, "Tom Taylor has been suspended with immediate effect following an incident involving TBFC and Porthmadog FC yesterday. As the matter is under police investigation, the club will not be making any further comments at this stage."
The club also emphasized, "We do not condone any unlawful behavior by our staff or players."
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has stated that it is reviewing the situation. A representative told BBC Sport Wales, "Tier three matches fall under the jurisdiction of the FAW. We are aware of the incident and will be conducting a review."
Match data indicates that referee Richard Gwyn Edwards did not issue any red cards during the match, which Porthmadog won 3-2.
Both Trearddur Bay and North Wales Police have been approached for further comments.
