Tribute to Colin Addison: Former Hereford United Manager Passes Away
Colin Addison, the former manager of Hereford United, has passed away at the age of 85. Addison was at the helm when the Bulls achieved a historic FA Cup victory over Newcastle United in 1972.
Under Addison's leadership, Hereford made their debut in the Football League, marking a significant milestone in the club's history.
Prior to his managerial career, Addison played for notable clubs including Nottingham Forest and Arsenal before taking on the role of player-manager at Hereford in 1971.
In 1972, he guided the non-league Bulls through an impressive FA Cup campaign, securing victories against Cheltenham Town, King's Lynn, and Northampton Town, culminating in a memorable 2-1 victory over top-flight Newcastle United in a third-round replay at Edgar Street.
In that match, Ronnie Radford equalized after Malcolm Macdonald's opener for Newcastle, and Ricky George scored the winning goal in extra time.
Hereford FC, the successor club established in 2014 following the winding-up of Hereford United, expressed their deep sorrow at the news of Addison's passing.
