Former Wales forward Ronald 'Wyn' Davies has passed away at the age of 83.
Born in Caernarfon in 1942, Davies enjoyed a remarkable career during the 1960s and 70s, playing for notable clubs such as Wrexham, Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, and both Manchester City and Manchester United.
Known as 'Wyn the Leap' due to his exceptional heading ability, the 6ft 1in forward earned 34 caps for Wales, scoring six goals. He remains a revered figure at Newcastle, where he was affectionately called 'The Mighty Wyn'.
The Football Association of Wales expressed their condolences, stating: "The thoughts of everyone at the FAW are with the family and friends of Wyn Davies during this difficult time."
Davies began his playing career while working in a slate quarry, starting with local teams Locomotive Llanberis and Caernarfon Town. He signed with Wrexham in 1960 before being acquired by Bolton.
After moving to Bolton, Davies was first capped by Wales in October 1963 against England, making his final appearance against Poland in September 1973.
His first international goal came in 1964, giving Wales an early lead in a 3-2 victory over Scotland.
Perhaps his most famous goal was scored in November 1966, when he netted Wales' sole goal in a 5-1 defeat to an England side that had recently been crowned world champions.
After four seasons with Bolton, Davies joined Newcastle in 1966 for a then club record fee of £80,000. He was part of the celebrated Magpies team that won the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, which later evolved into the UEFA Cup, marking the club's only major European triumph.
In 1971, Davies moved to Manchester, first playing for City, where he won the 1972 FA Charity Shield and reunited with former Bolton teammate Francis Lee, and then United, before transferring to Blackpool in 1973.
He later played for Stockport County and Crewe Alexandra, before returning to Wales to conclude his professional career at Bangor City in 1978-79. He also had a brief stint in South Africa with Cape Town City, retiring at the age of 37.
Following his retirement from football, Davies worked as a baker in Bolton.
