West Ham United's head coach, Graham Potter, is facing considerable internal scrutiny as the club explores potential managerial alternatives.
At 50 years old, Potter is under increasing pressure to retain his position at the London Stadium following a disappointing start to the season, which reached a new low after Saturday's home defeat to Crystal Palace.
Multiple sources have informed BBC Sport that even before Saturday's loss—West Ham's fourth in five Premier League matches—the club had begun identifying potential successors for Potter.
Nuno Espirito Santo, who was recently dismissed by Nottingham Forest, is understood to be among the candidates under consideration by West Ham.
The possibility of Slaven Bilic, a former player and manager of the club, returning on a short-term basis has also been discussed internally, according to sources.
Additionally, the club is aware of the availability of Gary O'Neil, the former managers of Bournemouth and Wolves.
There is a recognition within the club that dismissing Potter so early in the Premier League season—after only five matches—would not be ideal. However, the initiation of the search for potential replacements highlights the growing uncertainty regarding Potter's future.
