West Ham Targets Toulouse Defender Charlie Cresswell Before Transfer Deadline
West Ham United is reportedly targeting Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell as the transfer deadline approaches on Monday.
The 23-year-old defender played a pivotal role in the England Under-21 team that secured the European Championship title this summer, earning a spot in the UEFA Team of the Tournament.
Cresswell's impressive performances have drawn interest from several clubs in both Serie A and the Premier League, with West Ham now looking to make a move.
Last season, the former Leeds United player made 34 appearances for Ligue 1 side Toulouse, contributing four goals across all competitions.
However, negotiations for Cresswell's transfer could be complicated by Crystal Palace's interest in his Toulouse teammate, Jaydee Canvot. Talks for the highly-rated 19-year-old French central defender are reportedly at an advanced stage.
West Ham manager Graham Potter, who recently signed Mateus Fernandes from Southampton, suggested on Friday that he is looking to bolster his squad before the summer transfer window closes. “You never know what’s going to happen,” he stated. “I think it’ll be one of those windows that’s going to see a lot of late activity.”
