Wrexham Secures First Championship Win Against Millwall
Kieffer Moore's header and Lewis O'Brien's stoppage-time goal gave Wrexham their first Championship win of the season at Millwall.
Moore's goal came against the run of play at The New Den, where Millwall had controlled possession throughout the match.
Despite creating several opportunities, Alex Neil's side was unable to capitalize, with Kevin Nisbet missing a golden chance to equalize in stoppage time.
O'Brien secured the victory for Wrexham in extended stoppage time after goalkeeper Danny Ward received lengthy treatment for an injury.
This win marks Wrexham's first in English football's second tier since the 1981-82 season, lifting them to 15th place in the table, while Millwall sits in 12th.
Millwall aimed to achieve three wins in four Championship matches, while Wrexham had only managed one point from their first three league games.
The home side edged a goalless first half, with Aidomo Emakhu on the left wing proving to be a significant threat.
Massimo Luongo and Camiel Neghli had their efforts blocked, and Mihailo Ivanovic headed wide from Emakhu's cross as Millwall dominated possession.
Wrexham struggled to break out of their own half in the first 45 minutes, with home goalkeeper Steven Benda having little to do.
Matty James set up Moore, but the Welsh forward failed to convert his opportunity.
As the second half began, Wrexham faced pressure, with Ward making a crucial save to deny Emakhu.
Millwall continued to dictate play, with Josh Coburn firing wide from a tight angle before Ivanovic attempted an overhead kick.
However, against the run of play, Wrexham took the lead with their first significant attack of the second half, as Moore headed home Max Cleworth's cross.
Phil Parkinson's side appeared comfortable after taking the lead, although Emakhu should have equalized for Millwall but shot wide.
Substitute Nisbet shot over the bar in stoppage time after Ward was unable to claim a cross into the area, suffering an injury in the process.
Ward received extensive treatment on the pitch and was eventually replaced by Arthur Okonkwo, who came on to finish the final minutes.
Wrexham's nerves were calmed when substitute James McClean assisted O'Brien, who fired past Benda to confirm the victory.
What’s Next for These Teams?
The first international break of the season grants both teams a two-week respite from the Championship campaign.
Wrexham will return to action at home against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, September 13, buoyed by their first league win at Millwall.
Millwall will also resume on the same day with an early kickoff against south London rivals Charlton Athletic, who, like Wrexham, were promoted from League One last season.
