Arsenal Defeats Fulham to Extend Premier League Lead
Leandro Trossard's second-half goal secured a victory for Arsenal against a resilient Fulham, allowing them to maintain a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta entered the match without captain Martin Ødegaard, opting to start Eberechi Eze in his place to leverage the attacking talent available to him.
Despite Arsenal's strong lineup, it was Fulham who initially took control, with Harry Wilson and Josh King both coming close to scoring, the latter having a shot tipped over the bar by Arsenal's goalkeeper David Raya.
As the match progressed, Arsenal began to assert themselves, with Riccardo Calafiori having a well-crafted goal disallowed for offside.
The Gunners returned to the field for the second half with renewed vigor, applying significant pressure on Fulham for much of the period.
This pressure paid off in the 58th minute when centre-back Gabriel flicked on a corner taken by Bukayo Saka, allowing Trossard to find the net from close range at the back post.
Saka later believed he had won a penalty that could have doubled Arsenal's lead, but the decision was overturned by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
With this victory, Arsenal remains three points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who briefly held the top position on Saturday after their win against Everton. Liverpool sits four points behind in third place, while Arne Slot's team is set to host Manchester United on Sunday.
