Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta Discusses Transfer Market Activity
Arsenal is "actively exploring options" in the transfer market and may sign additional players before the window closes, according to manager Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners have already invested approximately £190 million this summer, acquiring Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Arteta stated, "Let’s see what happens in terms of where the squad stands in the next few weeks. We are actively looking at options. There are also a few players who may need to leave, so we will remain open to any developments."
Arsenal concluded their pre-season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, featuring a goal from new £64 million striker Gyokeres, alongside goals from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz.
"I am very pleased with what I observed," Arteta remarked. "Individually, there were some outstanding performances against a Champions League opponent, which is a good feeling. The first goal is always crucial, and Gyokeres executed it exceptionally well."
Arteta noted the developing connections with new players, adding, "Kai came in, and the goal he scored was top-notch as well."
During pre-season, Arsenal has adopted a more direct style of play, which Arteta believes will enhance Gyokeres’ contributions on the field. "That’s his nature," he explained. "His movement, timing of runs, and ability to anticipate the next move and identify space are instinctual. That’s why he has scored so many goals in recent seasons—it’s a testament to his talent and relentless pursuit of opportunities."
Arteta emphasized Gyokeres' impact, stating, "He occupies both center-backs. If you give him space in a one-on-one situation, he will exploit it. He will also create significant space for us, ensuring that in any situation, there is a player ready to score."
