Barry Ferguson has expressed his openness to returning to football management, revealing that he has received several offers since concluding his stint as interim head coach at Rangers this summer.
The 47-year-old former Rangers and Scotland captain stepped in after Philippe Clement was dismissed in February. Following a US-based takeover of the Scottish Premiership club, Ferguson was succeeded by Russell Martin.
Despite achieving a 40% win rate in his 15 matches in charge, which was 24% lower than his Belgian predecessor, Ferguson felt his team performed admirably. Together with assistants Neil McCann and Billy Dodds, he led Rangers to the Europa League quarter-finals.
"I would never rule out going back into management," Ferguson stated during an interview with Go Radio, his first since his interim role ended.
"I've had a few offers from Scotland, down south, and abroad, but they didn't feel right. I'm taking some time out before returning to my previous activities."
Ferguson will resume his position as a club ambassador at Ibrox. Reflecting on his managerial tenure, he said, "Overall, I can look myself in the mirror."
"It was somewhat bumpy at times," he admitted. "I anticipated that. When I took over, the players were struggling and had faced some challenging results."
"My focus was on revitalizing the team with the staff I brought alongside me."
Ferguson cherished his time in the managerial role, expressing gratitude for the opportunity he never expected, despite previous managerial roles at Clyde, Kelty Hearts, and Alloa Athletic.
"There were results at Ibrox, particularly against Motherwell and Hibs, that were disappointing," he recalled. "We experienced both fantastic and challenging times."
"I thoroughly enjoyed those three months, but now it's over. My life has returned to a peaceful state, which I'm quite content with."
Ferguson acknowledged that his choice of McCann, Dodds, and former goalkeeper Allan McGregor for his backroom team led to "some feisty moments."
He explained, "I could have selected various people, but I wanted those who would challenge me as a staff. I enjoy being challenged."
"The staff I chose certainly provided me with a few challenges."
