Berke Ozer's Heroic Penalty Saves Secure Lille's Europa League Victory
Lille goalkeeper Berke Ozer made a stunning impact by saving three consecutive penalties in the final moments of their Europa League match against Roma.
The French team took an early lead with Hakon Arnar Haraldsson scoring in the sixth minute, capitalizing on a defensive error.
However, Roma was awarded a chance to equalize when they received an 80th-minute penalty following a handball by Aissa Mandi.
Substitute Artem Dovbyk stepped up to take the penalty, but Ozer made a crucial save. The referee, Erik Lambrechts, called for a retake after ruling that Ozer had moved off his line.
During the second attempt, Dovbyk was again denied by Ozer, who made another impressive save, though Dovbyk was penalized for stepping forward too early.
The responsibility then fell to Matias Soule for the third penalty, but he too was thwarted by Ozer, whose save stood firm and helped Lille secure the victory.
After the match, Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini remarked, "I have never seen three missed penalties in one match. It was an almost unique, random situation, which ultimately compromised the result."
