Birmingham City and Ipswich Town Fined for Player Misconduct
Birmingham City has been fined £100,000, while Ipswich Town faces a £24,000 penalty for failing to control their players during their opening Championship match of the season.
Both clubs received warnings after admitting to the charge at the Football Association's independent regulatory commission.
The allegations stated that the clubs "failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper and/or provocative manner around the 95th minute" of their 1-1 draw at St Andrew's on August 8.
Tensions escalated between the players after Ipswich was awarded a penalty in stoppage time, which further intensified after George Hirst converted the penalty.
The commission highlighted that this latest disciplinary action marks the fifth sanction for Birmingham within a 12-month period, with the first instance occurring against Wrexham in League One on September 16, 2024.
Just five days prior, Birmingham received its fourth sanction, a £20,000 fine for failing to control their players during the final match of the League One season against Cambridge United, who also faced a £5,000 fine.
Due to Birmingham's history of disciplinary issues, the maximum fine that could have been imposed in this case was £135,000; however, it was reduced because of mitigating factors and the club's admission of guilt.
