Brentford Signs Dango Ouattara in Club Record Deal
Brentford has finalized a club record deal worth up to £42.5 million to acquire Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.
The Burkina Faso forward has signed a five-year contract with the option for an additional year.
At 23 years old, Ouattara scored nine goals in 37 appearances across all competitions last season and is expected to fill the void left by Bryan Mbeumo, who transferred to Manchester United in July.
Brentford manager Keith Andrews expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating, "We are really happy to bring Dango in. He is someone we were aware of and were surprised to find available. Once we realized that signing him might be an option, we focused on making it happen."
Andrews highlighted Ouattara's Premier League experience, noting, "Despite his young age, he hasn't yet found his rhythm due to a lack of consistent game time." Sources close to Ouattara indicated that he was eager to leave Bournemouth, where he struggled to secure a significant role since joining from French club Lorient in January 2023.
Andrews believes Ouattara will be a valuable addition to Brentford. "He fits the style we want to play and brings a quality that we were missing in our forward line. He will complement our existing squad," he added. "The fans will love him; he’s the type of player who will get them off their seats."
Nottingham Forest had previously shown interest in Ouattara but ultimately chose to sign England Under-21 winger Omari Hutchinson for £37.5 million from Ipswich.
It remains uncertain whether Ouattara's arrival will lead to striker Yoane Wissa's departure from Brentford. Andrews confirmed on Thursday that Wissa would not participate in their Premier League opener against Forest on Sunday, amid ongoing speculation regarding his future. Newcastle United has had a £25 million offer, plus £5 million in add-ons, for the 28-year-old rejected.
