Brighton Apologizes and Reconsiders Tribute Wall Plans
Brighton & Hove Albion has issued an apology following backlash from fans regarding plans to remove a tribute wall at the Amex Stadium.
The club had initially announced the removal of their Heritage Tile Wall, which features over 2,500 tiles contributed by fans, citing deterioration due to the effects of time and weather.
In its place, Brighton proposed a virtual 'Fan Wall,' allowing supporters to upload their photos for a fee of £45 as part of the club's 125th-anniversary celebrations.
However, after a petition garnered over 3,400 signatures urging the club to reconsider, Chief Executive and Deputy Chairman Paul Barber announced that they would instead install a physical replacement for the tribute wall.
In a letter to fans, Barber acknowledged the distress and confusion caused by the club's decision, stating, "We are very sorry for this. We recognize that many tiles hold significant sentimental value and emotional connections for people, and we are committed to protecting these messages."
He further clarified, "After carefully considering the heartfelt feedback we've received, we will not merge the heritage messages with the new 125 wall as initially proposed."
Brighton intends to have the new installation ready by the 2026-27 season and has assured fans that all existing messages on the tiles will be transferred at no additional cost.
Barber confirmed that no changes would be made to the existing wall until the end of the current season.
