Charlton Athletic Secures Stunning Victory Against Ipswich Town
Charlton Athletic delivered an impressive performance at Portman Road, scoring three goals in a remarkable 12-minute span during the second half to secure their second away win of the season against Ipswich Town.
Despite dominating the first half, Ipswich, who had been unbeaten at home this season, failed to capitalize on their chances. Charlton's goalkeeper, Thomas Kaminski, made a crucial save against Ivan Azon, while Ipswich forward Chuba Akpom struck the crossbar.
Charlton, now having won four of their last six matches, took advantage of their opportunities. Sonny Carey netted his fourth goal in seven games, followed by a header from Macaulay Gillesphey that doubled their lead.
The home side, now facing back-to-back defeats and losing goalkeeper Alex Palmer to injury in the first half, appeared shaken. Substitute Miles Leaburn added a third goal shortly after entering the game.
Charlton had previously struggled against Ipswich, conceding 14 goals in their last three encounters. Early on, it seemed the trend would continue as Ipswich exerted their dominance.
Kaminski denied Azon, while Jack Clarke's corner was cleared off the line by Charlton's Greg Docherty. Akpom's powerful shot from Azon's setup hit the bar, but Ipswich's momentum shifted following Palmer's injury.
Charlton began to create significant chances, with Isaac Olaofe, making his first league start, being thwarted by substitute goalkeeper Christian Walton. Gillesphey also missed a clear opportunity from a corner.
Clarke remained a constant threat for Ipswich, but Kaminski continued to thwart their efforts, turning Clarke's shot over the bar and witnessing Akpom narrowly miss with a header.
The tide turned for Charlton just after the 52-minute mark when Carey seized on a headed clearance from Leif Davis, maneuvered past Dara O'Shea, and fired a low shot past Walton to open the scoring.
Charlton's dominance became evident as Walton made another impressive save to deny Charlie Kelman. Following a corner, Carey's cross was flicked by Olaofe and landed perfectly for Gillesphey to head in for a 2-0 lead.
Ipswich thought they had pulled one back with a header from Kasey McAteer, but it was ruled out for offside. Charlton then extended their lead when Conor Coventry retrieved a poorly executed corner and set up Tyreece Campbell, whose cross found Leaburn for a third goal.
Despite a late opportunity for Ipswich, which was squandered by George Hirst, Charlton nearly added a fourth as both Leaburn and Campbell went close. The victory propelled Charlton to fifth place in the Championship standings.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna commented:
"There are two sides to the game. We need to capitalize on our opportunities, which we failed to do today. After conceding a poor goal, our reaction was not good enough. We didn't execute the fundamentals properly and conceded quickly. This is unacceptable, and we must improve our response in difficult moments. We need to dig deeper and find unity in our defense when facing adversity."
Charlton manager Nathan Jones stated:
"It was a magnificent result for us. In the first 25 minutes, we struggled to adapt and allowed Ipswich to control the game. However, we became more aggressive and created several chances in the first half. At halftime, I urged the players to be proactive; if we remained passive, Ipswich would exploit our weaknesses. In the second half, we were aggressive and took control of the game, leading to excellent goals and a fantastic performance overall."
