Cristian Romero Receives Additional Suspension and Fine
Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has been handed an additional one-match suspension and fined £50,000 due to his conduct during the team's defeat against Liverpool last month.
Romero accepted a charge from the Football Association for "acting improperly by failing to leave the field of play promptly" after being sent off in the 93rd minute of Tottenham's 2-1 loss on December 20.
The Argentine defender received a second yellow card for kicking out at Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate following a foul. His first yellow card was issued in the 66th minute for dissent.
It was also alleged that Romero behaved in a "confrontational and/or aggressive manner towards the referee" during the incident.
Following a hearing, an independent regulatory commission imposed the one-match suspension and the fine. Romero has already served a prior automatic one-game suspension resulting from his dismissal, missing Tottenham's 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace on December 28.
Additionally, he was suspended for his side's 2-1 defeat to Fulham on November 29 due to accumulated yellow cards.
An FA spokesperson stated that the written reasons for the latest sanctions will be released in due course.
